Installing the PalmPilot Application

Note: If you are syncing with the Helper Series, we recommend that you do not sync with any other programs.

Steps BEFORE Installing the Helper Series PalmPilot conduits:

1. HotSync Manager must be installed before installing the HS PalmPilot conduits.

2. Close out all other programs (including anti-virus software) before installing the HS PalmPilot conduits.

3. Note that this software will accomplish a "dual-synchronization" of all data that is on both your PalmPilot and in your Helper Series database. If you have data already within your PalmPilot, it will be automatically transferred to your Helper Series database and possibly cause duplication of records. NASI is not responsible if this occurs. To safeguard against database trouble, make sure your PalmPilot is clear of all data and that your Helper Series data is backed up before any use of this sync feature.

4. Be aware that "dual-synchronization" of your Comment information is not available with this version. Also, Reminders deleted from the PalmPilot will be archived in your Helper Series database the next time you run a HotSync.

5. Networked users will need to install the PalmPilot conduits on each individual workstation that needs to access the sync.

6. Additional information is provided through the Readme.txt file located within the PalmPilot folder on your Helper Series CD-ROM. This information will also be available when you reach Step 9 (Success) in the Special Procedures below.

7. This installation is NOT required for users who have already installed this utility unless otherwise noted as an update release.

8. Questions or more information can addressed by contacting our Tech Support staff by email or at 513-793-HELP (4357).

Special Procedures for the CD Installation
North American Software, Inc. (NASI) is pleased to announce that software integration is now available with PalmPilot. Note that clients holding a network version will need to install it on each individual workstation that would like to access the feature. As a continued reminder, please be aware that this integration can cause possible duplication of records within your Helper Series database if not used properly.

1. (If we have emailed the PalmPilot application to you, skip to #3.) Insert CD. Don't let the program auto-install. The Autorun feature will probably tell your computer to start installing the program as soon as you put it into your CD-ROM Drive. Click on the Exit button in the lower-right corner to close the Autorun feature. If you do not have the auto-insertion feature checked in your Device Manager, the drive will not auto-install anyway.

2. Access Windows Explorer. Click on Start --> Programs --> Windows Explorer. Search for your CD-ROM Drive in the Explorer window, and open the folder to reveal the PalmPilot folder. Highlight the PalmPilot folder, and on the right side you will see a file called fspalm.exe.

3. Run the fspalm.exe installer. Double-click on the fspalm.exe file to begin the installation process.

4. Let the WinZip Self-Extractor run. A Self-Extractor window will appear. Click on the Unzip button to extract the required files. A window will appear indicating that you successfully unzipped the 6 required files. Click OK to begin the process.

5. The program will search for the Helper Series folder. The Helper Series PalmPilot Setup will tell you: "Locating the Helper Series Program Folder, please wait." If you still have an older version of Helper Series installed on your computer, you need to ensure that it locates the most recent version of the software.

6. Specify your Helper Series path. When the program locates your Helper Series software, a window will appear to verify the path. If you have the program installed to the default location, the path will read "C:\Program Files\Helper Series\etc." You are looking for the directory where your application's executable file (Bhwin.exe) resides. Once the path is correct, click OK.

7. Re-start the HotSync. A message should now appear indicating that you will need to re-start PalmPilot's HotSync Manager software before the new Helper Series conduits are established. Click OK to continue. To restart the HotSync Manager, simply right-click on your HotSync icon in the system tray (by the clock) and choose Exit. Then select Palm Desktop from your Start menu.

8. Success. When the utility finishes installing, it will show "Helper Series Conduit setup completed successfully." We suggest that you click on the "View Readme" button to review additional information about the conduits (also available on this website).

If You Stop Using the PalmPilot Sync

If you are no longer syncing the Helper Series with PalmPilot, you need to run the uninstall.exe file to re-establish your original application conduits.
